CORPORATE BUSINESS LEADER
A New Neighbor, Fully Engaged
Leidos—a worldwide leader in science and technology—immediately and broadly connected to the Reston community as a new company and new corporate neighbor. Leidos’ employees have demonstrated from the beginning that the company’s core values of teamwork, passion and integrity in problem-solving go well beyond their corporate mission. In less than two years, Leidos’ employees have provided more than 32,000 volunteer hours benefiting a wide range of organizations. It has also contributed significant financial support to the community.
“We have a long history of being philanthropic,” says Mike Coogan, Leidos’ Director of Community Relations and Corporate Responsibility. “When the company divided (formerly a part of SAIC), we wanted to make sure to continue our philanthropic efforts. We wanted to make an impression right out of the gate.”
Through employee engagement (nearly a quarter of whom are veterans) and corporate philanthropy, Leidos has lent its support and presence to meeting basic human needs through the American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Reston) and American Heart Association (Run Your Heart Out, Reston); organizing the “Inspired Living Day” walk at Reston Town Center; becoming a Strategic Partner contributor for affordable housing and workforce development with Cornerstones; and engaging in Habitat for Humanity construction projects.
Commitment to our nation’s service men and women is a core value. Leidos’ employees have engaged with Paralyzed Veterans of America, Tragedy Assistance for Survivors, and the USO. In 2014, it also launched Operation MVP to hire, train and support returning veterans.
In addition, Leidos is helping to inspire the next generation of active community members in a broad range of educational opportunities, icluding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities in 12 Reston schools, arts experiences through the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), the Initiative for Public Art-Reston (IPAR), and the annual Ethics Day at South Lakes High School.
A new corporate entity and a new neighbor making its presence positively known, Leidos is likewise being inspired by Reston’s unique sense of community, a sense of family not felt elsewhere.
