Last fall, Cornerstones was delighted to learn that George Mason University students Azeem Abdul Khan, Daniel Kim, and Aisha Sikder, who are completing their Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, agreed to take on a challenging project and build a database for the Neighborhood Resources program.
The Neighborhood Resources program staffs centers in apartment complexes throughout Reston, providing a mix of educational, social, and recreational activities that strengthen the community and also linking residents to critical resources they need to increase their self-sufficiency.
Cornerstones puts great emphasis on looking for ways to improve its data collection process and the database that the GMU students have developed will go a long way to help staff more easily collect data and measure the impact Cornerstones’ programs have on the people it serves. All three graduate students took on the project with great enthusiasm and professionalism, not to mention an investment of time that spoke to their commitment to work collaboratively to serve our community.
