Ana* and her son arrived at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter to escape an abusive relationship. Unable to provide for her son and having no other place to go was a situation Ana never expected to face.
Once at the shelter, Ana worked with a Cornerstones case manager who provided counseling and guidance. No longer having to look over her shoulder in fear, Ana began to plan for the future and make positive changes in her life.
Your gift provides a safe haven for families to rebuild their lives.
Ana enrolled her son in Cornerstones’ Laurel Learning Center where he could receive quality childcare and pre-school instruction. With her son in a safe environment, Ana was able to enroll in a job training program.
Your contribution provides families with job training and high-quality childcare.
So that their time in the shelter would be brief, Ana and her son were moved quickly to supportive housing. They received food and clothing while Ana participated in Cornerstones’ financial mentoring program, beginning the long journey to financial stability. She enrolled in Cornerstones’ citizenship class, helping her to better understand American culture, improve her English proficiency, and work toward becoming an American Citizen.
Completing her job training program, Ana has now secured a full-time job with benefits, has already been promoted and has moved into Cornerstones’ permanent housing program. She has become an American Citizen, and now gives back by assisting with teaching the citizenship class. Her son is doing well in school and is enjoying his friends.
Your gift to Cornerstones today will help others like Ana who come through the doors seeking Cornerstones’ services.
